Adam Zhang

Adam is a freshman at St. Mark’s School of Texas in Dallas. Adam has various interests, mainly related to the classics and the arts. He has played piano for ten years and also plays the church organ at his school’s chapel. Adam also frequently performs duets and piano trios with his friends. He is currently writing a musicology paper regarding his favorite pianist-composer, Franz Liszt. Bolstered by his six years of choir experience, Adam has joined many classical Roman Latin conventions/festivals and studied the works of authors such as Virgil, Caesar, Tacitus, and Martial.

Adam also uses his trusty camera to take photos and make short films to express his creative ideas. He records highlights and clips for his grades’ student council and filmed in Florence, Italy for the New York Film Academy.

Adam was honored with the Presidential Volunteer Service Gold Award, for an outstanding amount of hours (over 250) dedicated to social impact and community service. He often helps out other organizations with his varied skillset. Adam truly enjoys helping others start or continue their journey with the arts. Adam also has other academic endeavors such as academics, where he attended competitions such as MathCounts and qualified for the AIME.

Adam is also one of 0.2% of artists nationally to win a gold medal at the national Scholastic Art and Writing Awards for outstanding expressive prowess. He will go to Carnegie Hall in New York over the summer to receive his award and continue his journey by meeting other accomplished artists and scholars.

Music is a huge part of Adam’s life. Adam has played the cello for a brief period of four years in middle school, but decided to focus on his main instrument, the piano. Adam studies musicology at a local university and is also the pianist for his school’s orchestra, which goes to TMEA and TPSMEA for state festivals. His favorite music-related activity is analyzing operatic transcriptions and paraphrases for piano. Adam consistently attends the Dallas Symphony Orchestra and the Dallas Opera’s performances nearly bi-weekly.

Adam also frequently enters piano competitions and festivals, winning prizes such as first place in the Carmel Klavier International Piano Competition and the Charleston International Piano Competition. He also passed the Arizona Study Program’s Grade 12 theory exam as a 6th grader with honors.
